Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2, 2026

Gradely ("we," "our," or "us") is a grade-tracking application that connects directly to your school's Canvas LMS account using a Canvas access token you generate and authorize. This Privacy Policy describes how we handle information in connection with your use of the Gradely app and this website, gradelypro.com (together, the "App").

Please read this policy carefully. By using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.

Information We Access

To display your information within the App, you generate a Canvas access token from your own Canvas account and authorize Gradely to use it. We use that token to connect directly to your school's Canvas instance — no third-party data broker is involved.

Through this connection, the App may access and display:

  • Your name and basic profile information
  • Your course enrollments and academic terms
  • Your grades, assignments, and assignment categories/weights
  • Your academic calendar events

This data is retrieved periodically by a background process and stored on our server (see "Information Stored on Our Server" below) so the App can display it quickly without contacting Canvas on every screen.

Information Stored on Our Server

Unlike a purely real-time lookup, Gradely keeps a working copy of your Canvas data on our server so the App, GPA tracker, and What-If calculator can function quickly and offline-tolerantly. Specifically, we store:

  • Your Canvas access token, encrypted with AES-256-GCM — we cannot read it in plain text without your encryption key, and it is never logged or transmitted unencrypted
  • Your Canvas domain, name, and email, as provided by Canvas
  • Your synced courses, terms, assignments, assignment categories, and grades
  • Your in-app settings (theme, icon)

This data is associated with an identifier derived from your Canvas account and school domain — never a guessable or reused value. You can permanently delete all of it at any time; see "Data Deletion" below.

Information Stored on Your Device

The data Gradely stores locally on your device is:

  • A secure session token used to maintain your signed-in state (stored in your device's encrypted system keychain)
  • Your in-app appearance and language preferences (color theme, background, app icon, language)
  • Reminders you create in the App, and your suggestion preferences (hidden or pinned items, and terms you exclude from GPA calculations)

None of these contain your Canvas access token. They are stored exclusively on your device and are never transmitted to anyone but our own server when the App makes a request. All of them are erased if you delete your account.

How We Use Information

The information described above is used solely to operate the features of the App — displaying your grades, assignments, courses, and calendar, and enabling the GPA tracker and What-If grade calculator.

We do not use your information for any of the following:

  • Advertising or marketing
  • Profiling or behavioral analytics
  • Sale or transfer to third parties
  • Any purpose unrelated to the features you see in the App

Third-Party Services

Gradely connects directly to Canvas, the learning management system operated by your school. Canvas operates under its own privacy policy and your school's data agreements. Gradely does not control and is not responsible for Canvas's or your school's practices.

To keep the App reliable, we use Sentry, a crash- and performance-monitoring service. If the App crashes or performs poorly, technical diagnostics — such as device model, operating system version, app version, and details of the error — are sent to Sentry. These diagnostic reports are not linked to your name, email, or Canvas account, and are used only to identify and fix problems in the App.

Beyond these, we do not share your information with any other third parties except as required by law.

Data Accuracy and Responsibility

All academic data displayed in Gradely originates from your educational institution's systems. Gradely makes no representations about the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any grade or assignment information shown in the App.

Your educational institution is the authoritative source of your academic records. Always verify critical information directly with your institution.

Children's Privacy

Gradely is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect, solicit, or retain personal information from anyone under the age of 13.

If we become aware that a user under 13 has provided personal information, we will take prompt steps to delete that information and terminate the associated session. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has used Gradely, please contact us via our Contact page or through the Contact Support option in the app's Settings.

Data Deletion

You may permanently delete your Gradely account at any time by going to Settings → Account → Delete Account in the app. This action immediately and permanently deletes, on our server: your encrypted Canvas access token, your synced courses/terms/assignments/grades, and your app settings — and on your device: your session token and local preferences. You are signed out immediately afterward.

Your actual Canvas account and the grades held by your school are not affected by this action — only the copy Gradely synced is deleted. To revoke Gradely's Canvas access token directly from Canvas's side, go to your Canvas account's Settings → Approved Integrations and delete the token named for Gradely.

Security

We take commercially reasonable measures to protect the information associated with your use of the App. Your session token is stored in your device's system keychain, which is encrypted and isolated from other apps. Your Canvas access token is encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM before being stored on our server. All connections between the App, our server, and Canvas use encrypted (HTTPS) communication.

No security measure is guaranteed to be impenetrable. We cannot and do not guarantee the absolute security of any information.

Disclaimer of Liability

Gradely is provided as a convenience tool for viewing academic information. We are not responsible for any decisions made based on information displayed in the App, including academic, financial, or personal decisions.

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to any educational institution or to Instructure (the maker of Canvas).

Changes to This Policy

We may revise this Privacy Policy at any time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. Continued use of the App following any update constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.

Contact

For questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy, please reach out via our Contact page, or through the Contact Support option in the app's Settings. We will respond to all inquiries within a reasonable timeframe.
